Sofía's paradox
From childhood, we are indoctrinated on how to eat, think, love, behave, work, and live. We are not taught how to inhabit our bodies, to observe our minds, or to explore our feelings with tenderness. In fact, feeling too much is often seen as a problem. We are sent to therapy or prescribed pills if we are considered too sensitive. We live in a culture that anesthetizes instead of accompanying.
Meanwhile, entire industries flourish thanks to this inner confusion. The pharmaceutical, cosmetic, entertainment, and so-called miracle-product industries all thrive by feeding our insecurities and our emptiness. Greed, envy, lust, fear… these are no longer just human emotions; they are the engine of the market—and we allow it. We buy front-row tickets to the spectacle of our own disconnection. And we know it. And it hurts. But breaking that cycle requires looking inward, and looking inward is frightening.
