Reseña

The original idea for a book about the Castro Lee family started in the 1990’s when Vilma (Amy) Castro used to periodically visit her Auntie Beatriz Castro Mar in Mountain View, California. Beatriz would relate stories about the Castro Lee family and her own personal childhood memories to Amy. After realizing that she was hearing a lot of family history, Amy decided to transcribe them on her laptop, and eventually merged her document with another one that her cousin Dennis Mar, son of Beatriz, had been compiling.
After gathering the stories together, Amy also realized the material was a good start for a book about the history of the Castro Lee family, specifically about Guillermo Castro, Sara Lee, and their children. The first edition was compiled and written by Amy Castro and published in April 2014. Later, in 2018, after a family reunion, Amy and Faye Lee Mar, Dennis’ sister, discussed the possibility of a second edition.
The authors Amy, Faye, and Enrique are proud to present the second edition which, compared to the first edition, contains more information from interviews, letters, diaries, published references, and DNA analysis, and more photographs that were recently discovered. They hope that this book will serve as a historical reference about the lives of Sara and Guillermo Castro and their children.

The authors, Vilma (Amy) Castro Leon, Faye Lee Mar, and Enrique Castro Leon, and the entire Castro Lee third generation never had the opportunity to meet their grandparents, Guillermo and Sara. The immigration of Guillermo and Sara from China to Central America and the necessity to earn a living to support their children in Costa Rica must have presented many, many personal challenges. By way of this book, we look forward to sharing their story and the stories of their children, the second generation. Their combined histories will continue to inspire and fill us with gratitude for the values, opportunities, and emphasis on education and hard work that was passed on to us.
