Reseña

As the United Nations lead agency for international development, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) works in 170 countries and territories to eradicate poverty and reduce inequality. We support countries to develop policies, leadership and partnership skills, institutional capacities and build resilience to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. UNDP work concentrates on three areas; sustainable development, democratic governance and peacebuilding, and climate and disaster resilience.
UNDP's mandate is to end poverty, build democratic governance, the rule of law and inclusive institutions. It advocates for change and connects countries with the knowledge, experience and resources to help people build better lives.
The Global Environment Facility (GEF) Global Biodiversity Framework Early Action Support Project (GBF EAS) supports developing, middle-income and small island countries in their commitments to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) to accelerate readiness and early action to implement the new framework. It provides financial and technical support to developing, middle-income and small island countries in their commitments to align National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs) with the post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework.
This project connects biodiversity policy makers, change agents and subject matter experts on the ground to facilitate the implementation of the CBD's global biodiversity framework and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. Working in collaboration with United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the CBD Secretariat and the GEF Secretariat, this project provides technical and financial support to GEF-eligible CBD Parties. Depending on the policy cycle, the type of technical support and the amount of financial support provided to Parties may vary.
CBD Parties are currently being mobilized to take early action on the GBF, focusing on four components: national biodiversity planning and alignment, policy frameworks, monitoring and reporting frameworks, and biodiversity financing. These components, among others that may emerge, are intended to ensure that CBD Parties have the technical and financial support they need to work towards a robust and fully resourced NBSAP, including a strong monitoring system, that is fully aligned with the GBF.
