Sustaining the future: educating and providing care without resources or support
The impact of the measures taken against the COVID-19 pandemic on female teachers in eight Latin American countries
In August 2020, Education International Latin America (EILA) agreed to collaborate with the Centro Feminista de Información y Acción (Feminist Center for Information and Action, CEFEMINA) on a project studying the various ways in which the conditions experienced under the pandemic affect women teachers in Latin America.
The objective of this is to discover the impacts of the pandemic and the measures adopted by governments in this context on unionized women teachers in El Salvador, Honduras, Costa Rica, Colombia, Peru, Paraguay, Argentina and Brazil.
The findings of this study show many similarities in the eight countries and reflect a common reality: women teachers have upheld the right to education during the pandemic through commitment, will and initiative.
