Existen peces que son muy bonitos y peces que son… menos bonitos. Entre los primeros figura una beldad vestida de azul cobalto que podría pasar por sirena: es la hembra del merlín, que encanta a los buenos pescadores quienes, cuando pueden atraparla, deben devolverla al mar. La ley es la ley.
Para los pescadores deportivos, Costa Rica es famosa por esta especie, que despliega su fuerza y belleza en el mar Pacífico a mediados de año, cuando hay abundancia de otras más pequeñas que les sirven de alimento. Goloso como pocos, un marlín puede llegar a pesar 500 kilos.
